| The ground colour is usually
a dark shade |

| of yellow and this is marked
by black |

| rosettes on the flanks and
back, the |

| centres of the
rosettes being a darker |

| shade than the general ground
colour. |

| There are considerable
variations in the |
|
| spotting and ground colour
and the |
|
| melantistic or black form
known as the |
|
| Black Panther is quite
common. |
|
| In captivity the Leopard has
lived as long |
|
| as 23 years, but the life
span in the wild |
|
| is far less normally around
12 - 15 years. |
